Lumen Association has experience in promoting STEAM Education among children, young people, teachers and educators. It organizes workshops concerning robotics, coding, pixel art, stop motion, virtual and augmented reality, tinkering, science, etc. developed through learning-by-doing methodologies. Lumen strongly promotes innovative pedagogical methods of experiential learning, that focuses on learners reflecting on their experience of doing something, so as to gain conceptual insight as well as practical expertise. Participants are actively engaged through practical activities and games: in this way, they apply what they have learnt and they learn what they have applied.  Our work aims at promoting gender-equality, encouraging also girls to have fruitful, creative and innovative experiences with technical and scientific subjects, so that they can appreciate them and develop an interest that can make them decide, eventually, to choose this kind of studies or careers. In a fast-changing world, it is important to have the opportunity to have this kind of experience in order to develop competences to better understand and use new technologies. Knowledge is the basis to decide the school and professional path that fits you better. And these workshops are a technological gym, where young people can enhance talents that are not able to emerge during traditional classes. Through the active involvement of participants and stimulating cooperation among them, workshops also support thedevelopment of collaborative innovation, creativity, critical thinking and soft skills in general. These workshops are an opportunity to acquire and develop key competences, favoring employability, socio-educational and personal development of young and adult participants. Lumen manages FabLab Junior of Casa Corsini, that is the first FabLab of Emilia-Romagna Region (and one of the few at national level) specifically designed for children aged 6-14. Here, it organizes activities to make them and people responsible for their education (youth workers and teachers) approach STEM. Through local, regional and national projects, Lumen also organizes this kind of activities for school classes and for groups of youngsters attending youth centers. Lumen has also started a new project named “FabLab & Friends” which consists in the development and organization of STEAM Education workshops addressed to disable people in collaboration with local associations active in this field. Lumen tries to finance its activities through local, regional and European funds, in order to provide open and free workshops. STEAM Education allows you to better understand technical and scientific subjects through active participation, game and creativity and offers important opportunities of personal and professional development.
