UTRIP
Scope of Work
Institute for Research and Development »Utrip« (UTRIP) is a non-governmental and a non-profit research institute with substantial experience in the field of youth risk behaviour prevention and advocacy. UTRIP aims to conduct research, develop, implement, monitor and evaluate the projects and programmes in the field of youth risk behaviour, addiction prevention, health promotion and healthy lifestyle. UTRIP is a member of several and civil society, research and advocacy networks and alliances, such as the European Alcohol Policy Alliance (Eurocare), the Civil Society Forum on Drugs (CSF), the Vienna NGO Committee (VNGOC), the European Society for Prevention Research (EUSPR), the Science for Prevention Academic Network (SPAN), the International Confederation of Research Alliances in the field of Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) (ICARA), the International Organisation of Good Templars (IOGT), the International Drug Policy Consortium (IDPC) and the European Alcohol Policy Network (APN).
UTRIP was and still is involved in several European research and developmental projects, co- financed by the European Commission under the Health Programme, the Drug Prevention and Information Programme, the Justice Programme (Drug Policy Initiatives), the Daphne III Programme, the Lifelong Learning Programme, the Erasmus Plus Programme, the European Social Fund and the 7th Framework Programme (FP7). UTRIP was actively involved in the European Alcohol Policy Research Alliance (AMPHORA) and the European research project in the field of addictions (ALICE RAP), co-funded by the 7th Framework Programme (FP7). UTRIP was the coordinator of the project “Club Health – Healthy and Safer Nightlife of Youth” which was co-financed by the European Commission (Health Programme). UTRIP is a national centre for school-based prevention programmes EU-Dap (»Unplugged«), EFFEKT and Boys & Girls Plus, and family-based prevention programme »The Strengthening Families Program«. UTRIP leads a national network of NGOs in the field of prevention »Prevention platform«, which is funded by the European Social Fund and the Ministry of Health.
UTRIP is a private institute with annual budget of approx. 300.000 € (2018) and it is not membership organisation. UTRIP is funded by the European Commission (several projects), the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, and the City of Ljubljana. Now, 6 people work for UTRIP on full-time or part-time contracts, which mostly depend on funded projects and sustainable national funding by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia. UTRIP collaborates with many professionals, volunteers and students. Matej Košir, a Director of UTRIP, received the European Society for Prevention Research (EUSPR) 2017 award called »Leading European Prevention Science Practitioner Honour« (http://euspr.org) at the EUSPR 2017 conference in Vienna (Austria). Sanela Talić, Head of Prevention at UTRIP, received the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP) Services to Drug Demand Reduction Award 2018 in the category »Early Career« (https://www.issup.net/about-issup/issup- award/services-award/early-career-award-winner) at the ISSUP 2018 conference in Nairobi (Kenya) and is a PhD in Prevention Science candidate at the University of Zagreb (Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences) (Croatia).

Relevant Skills and Experience
UTRIP is among key partners of the UPC-Adapt project (http://upc-adapt.eu) and one of the main goals of the project was the realisation of a condensed and adapted Universal Prevention Curriculum (UPC). The so-called European Universal Prevention Curriculum (EUPC) is based on the reviews of recognized international experts and project partners. Focus groups have been organized during the first six months of the project, to ensure that the input of local experts could be taken into account during the adaptation process. The result is an edited and layout version available in English and all partner languages. Parallel to the adaptation of UPC, three different training designs were realised, an e-learning, short (5-days) and academic version. To improve knowledge and skills of prevention workforce and policy- and decision-makers in the field of prevention policy and practice.
Additionally, UTRIP is among key partners in Erasmus Plus developmental project on social- emotional learning in schools called Learn2Be, which gathers partners from Lithuania, Latvia, Finland, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Slovenia. The result of the project will be a toolkit for teachers on methods of teaching and assessment of social-emotional and health skills and competencies of pupils. Partners of the project are also three ministries, responsible for education, including the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports of the Republic of Slovenia. The project is co-funded by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia.
Sanela Talić is the Secretary-General of UTRIP. She is also the Head of Prevention Programmes at UTRIP. She is a pedagogue and a project manager for prevention, education and training programmes. She is involved in several EC-funded projects in the field of addiction prevention, health promotion and healthy lifestyles, lifelong learning, violence and injury prevention etc. She is also a researcher and is skilled in organisation and communication. She is a member of the European Society for Prevention Research (EUSPR) and the Science for Prevention Academic Network (SPAN). She was/is involved in many European projects, co-funded by the European Commission under the Health Programme, the 7th Framework Programme (FP7), the Daphne III Programme, the Lifelong Learning Programme, the Drug Prevention and Information Programme, Justice Programme and the European Social Fund. She is a Master Trainer for Unplugged and EFFEKT school-based prevention programme and national coordinator and Master Trainer for the Strengthening Families Program (SFP). She is a member and elected secretary of the European Society for Prevention Research (EUSPR). She is a PhD on Prevention Science candidate at the University of Zagreb (Croatia).
Matej Košir is the Director of UTRIP. He has been working in the field of addiction prevention and licit and illicit drug-related policy for the last 20 years. He is a member of the European Society for Prevention Research (EUSPR), the Science for Prevention Academic Network (SPAN), the International Confederation of ATOD Research Associations (ICARA) (Vice-President / President- Elect), and the Civil Society Forum on Drugs (CSF) (Core Group member and Chair of the Working Group on minimum quality standards) etc. He is an author, co-author and reviewer of scientific articles and papers, and external evaluator of EC-funded projects in the field of health and research. He is a lecturer and facilitator of trainings and workshops in the field of prevention and advocacy. He has been a Postgraduate Research Assistant at Oxford Brookes University (UK) in the period of 2015-2016. He is a coordinator of the Prevention Platform for NGOs network, which includes more than 40 supporting NGOs in Slovenia (www.preventivna-platforma.si). He has been awarded by the European Society for Prevention Research (EUSPR) with “Leading European Prevention Science Practitioner Honour” at EUSPR Conference in Vienna in 2017.
